Lithology and Thickness
Taouratine Fm LITHOLOGY= USGS chart places this formation at the base of the Dogger stage in the Middle Jurassic. Shale overlain by sandstone. Composed of three units: a lower layer of alternating sandy claystones and ferruginous sandstones with plant and vertebrate fossils, a middle sandy dolomitic limestone layer, and an upper layer of claystones, friable sandstones, and occasional limestones. CALIBRATION = Base of Middle Jurassic (Aelenian). REFERENCE = Chart derived from: USGS Correlation Chart and Columnar Section for Rocks in Libya, 1963.
